A description of what I get up to in my new life Down Under

Monday, December 15, 2008

Hi all!

Well - since we got the boat, the wind has been way too strong to take her out - sigh....

Just as well really, cos we've got lots done around the house.  Have chucked son out of his room to the spare room for 3 weeks whilst daughter and fiance occupy it.  We all prepared that today.  I also went rather mad and decided to wash all the windows inside and out - shattered now with an aching neck!

This morning we sorted out our IRRV and are now residents in NZ indefinitely!  The next step in 3 years time is citizenship if we want it.  With residency, we have the same rights and NZ citizens, it's just that with citizenship, we can freely travel to and live and work in Oz if we wanted to.  Not really bothered about that at the mo though!

It was very windy and 27 degrees today!  No wonder I was shattered after all that window washing - must've drunk a gallon of aloe vera juice after (lovely drink).

Guess what?!  Yesterday, a hump back whale and her baby were spotted near Waiheke Island!  (Not far from us at all).  They were en route to the Antarctic.  Apparently, they put on a really great show for onlookers - jumping out of the water and waving their tails etc.

This is what the lucky spectators would have seen!  Imagine if I saw the shadow of that under me boat on the fish finder!  Adults are usually 12 to 16 metres long!  The screen would just go black I guess!

Orca were spotted in this area about a month ago too!

David Beckham has been here with his US team, playing soccer against some unknown Auckland team.  He jumped off the Harbour Bridge twice - one dry jump and the other wet - where he hit the water in other words!
David Beckham's Bungy Jump

There he goes!

And here I go!

TTFN.

Hello darling girl - looks like you are still having a load of fun. The residency thing sounds good, just remember you are a Brit though :)
Things are crazy over here with illness and sickness and hospital visits (Dad had a bad fall and has torn muscles and ligaments right down his leg, Mam has an overactive thyroid and Sally has been in and out of hospital for a few operations but she is home now and on the mend hopefully) but hopefully everyone will be better for Christmas. Your card will probably get to you for Easter as we areb't too organised for Chrostmas this year - I am thinking of sending happy January cards!!

Hi Andrea - you were all ill last Christmas too! You need to live somewhere warmer! Hope your mum and dad are better now. Will give a ring soon. Don't worry - got the card okay! Bummer about the lap top!

Hope things are improving for you all.

We're fine - Corrie and Will are enjoying themselves - got a low on the weather today - a bit drizzly - so they're off to the Auckland Museum in a bit.

Kev and I went out on the boat yesterday - a bit hairy cos it was our first time - but we did it! Popped across to Islington Bay in Rangitoto and back.

Really shattered last night though - slept well!

Take care.

Say hi to everyone.

x Sue

PS can never forget I'm a Brit - my accent won't let me - stands out a mile over here - lol!
