Rangitoto and Whatipu

Helloooooo!
Here I am posing on the tractor that takes people around Rangitoto (those that don't want to or can't walk very far).  We found it whilst walking around!  The other one passed us earlier on - full of visitors to NZ (I heard the driver ask in desperation if there were actually any Kiwis on board!).

We had a great day walking up and down the dormant volcano of Rangtitoto and were absolutely shattered by the end of it.  Here are some piccies......

Kevin having a play!

Walls built with the lava rocks that are all over the island from its last eruption.
One of the lovely baches that we saw dotted around the island - this one is near where we got off the ferry.
Coming in to the island on the ferry.
View from the top of Rangitoto.
Kevin sitting down after picnic lunch on the top.
Wow!
Somewhere on the island.
Same spot!  Oh I know why!  Far in the distance behind Kev is where we live!
City views.
Can you see the Sky Tower?

We collapsed on this beach for 20 minutes in the afternoon, before walking 1 1/2 hours back to the ferry.
Back on the top!

Lovely bach.
Very nice boat.

There were fresias everywhere and the smell was so gooood!
Don't know what these are - a bit weird!
This is in Huia - on our way to Whatipu - absolutely stunning views again!
Wow!

Whoops - three more Rangitoto piccies.
Whatipu beach - the cliffs behind Kev were so spectacular.
This is the other direction - we just could not see the end of the beach, it was sooooo looooong!
Solar lighthouse on a rock - some people surfcasting in the distance.
The walk to the beach.
Back at Huia!
Me spying with my binoculars!  Actually saw something large and black pop out of the water and then dive back down!  Not sure what it was, couldn't find it again!

Lots of noisy birds feeding.

Dead fish!  You can see the birdy footprints that had been feeding on it.

I think I may have repeated some of the photos.  Sorry.

Anyway we had a lovely day and plan to stay at the Lodge there for the weekend sometime soon.

Gotta go now - Christmas cake is a cooking in the oven.  I'm soooo organised at times - I amaze myself!

 Tara!

Spring has sprung!

Well - first of September was the first day of spring over here and I'm pleased to say, the weather has been appropriate!

We've had lovely t-shirt weather and I've had to start slapping the old sun cream onto my face (got a bit burnt on playground duty last week!).

Visited Whangamata yesteray and Waihi (both in the Coromandel).  Sooooo gorgeous!  Beautiful white sands and lovely lovely waves.

Watched the surfers enjoying themselves.

Got home about 7, called son (who was just locking up the shop) and all three of us had a slap up meal in the local Thai restaurant - yum!

Absolutely shattered when I got home and was asleep by 9!  Slept through til about 8!  Whew!

It's Fathers Day here today - so just about to give you know who his pressie!  Son is due home soon (party last night) and has told us that the pressie he's got is verrry intresting!  Hmmmm.

Whew - just a quick one today - gotta go!

Tata.....

NZ oranges are bountiful, cheap and juicy right now (must pick the ones of the tree to see what they're like).
